Meet the Founder


Dr. Avrie Powell is a Pilates instructor, wellness educator, and an English teacher of 17 years. After going plant-based in 2020, Avrie lost 50lbs through her diet and Pilates and strength/resistance training. “I’m passionate about sharing my love of Pilates and plant-based living”.

Our Classes

At Planted Core Pilates, our classes are designed to meet you where you are, and grow with you. Whether you’re brand new or returning to movement, each session is beginner-friendly while offering the opportunity to build strength, control, and confidence over time.


We focus on intentional, controlled movement rooted in classical Pilates principles, helping you develop a strong foundation first. From there, movements can be layered and progressed, allowing your practice to evolve as your body becomes stronger and more aligned.

This is a space where you can start slow, stay consistent, and build a practice that supports you for the long term.

At Planted Core Pilates, my mission is rooted in more than movement, it’s about wellness, awareness, and prevention.


Many of our loved ones have been impacted by  conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and other conditions that can affect our energy, our daily lives, and our long-term health. I believe everyone deserves access to tools that support lasting wellness. Rooted in Bessemer, Al, this mission is about bringing accessible wellness to the community. 


Through beginner-friendly Pilates and plant-based education, I create a space where you can:

  • Reduce stress and support heart health
  • Nourish your body with intention
  • Take small, consistent steps toward real change
